Bob Heil was looking well and telling Bob Nickels how optimistic he felt about his recent health recovery at Winterfest 2024. Sadly, we lost Bob Heil a few weeks later. Question: What’s the deal with the color purple? Answer: The color was one part marketing and one part theft prevention. When Heil Sound was a touring company and as I got on to building amplifiers, I’d look on the stage and everything up there was gray and black and silver. I was using Crown amps at the time, and so I’m figuring, if I’m going to build my own amps, we need something that people will recognize from a distance. So, I chose purple. I also made my mic cables in purple so people wouldn’t “accidentally” take them during loadout. I like purple. It’s all fun. That’s the whole thing.
